Many may find this project, Mankind (Sweden), impossible. But we must remember: yesterday’s dreams are tomorrow’s reality. Nothing is truly impossible if we dare to try.

Mankind (Sweden) is committed to collaborating with Sri Lankans, the Sri Lankan diaspora, the government of Sri Lanka, ambassadors representing Sri Lanka across the globe, and well-wishers worldwide. Together, we aim to secure the funding and support necessary to help build a new and united Sri Lanka.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our website, available in 14 languages! This milestone is part of our ongoing effort to serve Sri Lankans, the Sri Lankan diaspora, and supporters worldwide. We aim to make it easier for everyone to connect, contribute, and stay informed wherever they may be.

We are also pleased to share that the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Stockholm has kindly offered the use of the embassy premises for our activities after office hours.

At Mankind (Sweden), we are committed to turning vision into action. We are proud to share a detailed breakdown of our strategy to achieve our goals.

As the first step in this initiative, we are establishing a subcommittee in Sweden. This subcommittee will serve as a model "pilot project" serving as a learning opportunity before full-scale implementation, which Mankind (Sweden) aims to introduce globally, particularly in countries where Sri Lankans and members of the Sri Lankan diaspora have established their lives.

We understand that many Sri Lankans living abroad and members of the Sri Lankan diaspora wish to give back to the places where they grew up or where their families once lived. With this in mind, we are introducing a fundraising initiative for those who want to support their hometowns in Sri Lanka.

We assist participants in setting up their fundraising and investment projects in Sri Lanka. To get started, simply submit the proposed name of your project along with the project details to the subcommittee in your country. Once received, the subcommittee will notify the Sri Lankan ambassador in your country so that the project can be formally recorded.

All funds must be managed through reputable, well-established charitable organizations such as Lions Clubs International, Rotary International, or other similarly recognized entities. Mankind (Sweden) can help facilitate this connection and guide you through the process, ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment with your vision.

Project-related expenses of up to 12% of the total funds raised can be reimbursed upon presentation of valid receipts. 3% of the total funds shall remain with the charitable organizations for expenses for promoting project activities by Project Mankind (Sweden). The remaining 85% of the funds shall be transferred to charitable organizations' banks in Sri Lanka, waiting for the approval for project start by the fundraiser. By doing so, Sri Lanka will gain foreign exchange, and the fundraisers will have their dreams come true.

There are many ways to organize a fundraiser, and if your project is ambitious, you are welcome to host multiple fundraising efforts to meet your goals. All funds will be securely held by the designated charitable organization on your investment project's behalf until you authorize the start of your investment project in Sri Lanka.

Your charity, donation, or contribution—whether small, medium, or large can make a meaningful difference. It can support efforts such as poverty relief, medical aid for the poor, environmental protection, or even providing a weekly meal to an orphanage. You can also help underprivileged children by donating school books.

Support can take many forms. What truly matters is that the people in your hometown feel there is someone who cares about them.
There are over 3 million Sri Lankans living abroad. If those who are more fortunate extend a helping hand to those in need, together we can contribute to Sri Lanka’s recovery from its recent economic crisis.

1.Our vision is to empower all individuals, including children with special needs, through a holistic approach, enabling their optimal development so they can live as independently as possible with self-respect and dignity.”

Challenges and Call for Support
The pandemic over the past many years and the rising cost of living have placed a significant strain on financial resources. Many donors have expressed their inability to continue contributing due to financial constraints. Navodaya Special Children's Foundation in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, is one of the institutions we are prioritizing. This foundation primarily supports children with Down syndrome, along with those with Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Michael Syndrome, Learning Difficulties, Speech Problems, and Cerebral Palsy.

There are numerous similar institutions in Sri Lanka working tirelessly to assist vulnerable individuals. However, financial difficulties are hindering their operations. Mankind Sweden (N.G.O.) is committed to stepping in and providing donations to ensure these institutions can continue their invaluable work without interruptions.

How Donations Are Managed
All donations will be routed through the Lions Club to ensuring 100% transparency for donors.

2. Help Eradicate Drug Abuse and Addiction

Drug abuse and addiction pose serious challenges in Sri Lanka, particularly in the Colombo district, followed by the Gampaha and Jaffna districts.
Many young people, including students, have fallen victim to drug addiction, often leading to dire consequences such as being driven into prostitution or coerced into selling drugs to friends and acquaintances to sustain their habit.
The Effects of Drug Abuse
On an Individual Level:
  • Increased dependency results in physical and mental deterioration.
  • Heightened risk of dangerous behaviors, including violent crimes and suicidal thoughts.
On a Societal Level:
  • Broken families and an increase in crime rates.
  • Reduced productivity and hindered economic development.
Key Challenges
  1. Stigma and Silence
Many individuals and families avoid seeking help due to fear of societal judgment, choosing instead to conceal the problem.
  2. Limited Resources
Sri Lanka has a shortage of rehabilitation centers and lacks specialized programs for prevention and treatment.
  3. Underlying Causes
Contributing factors like poverty and mental health issues are often overlooked in addressing drug abuse.
Our Plan to Combat Drug Abuse
At Mankind Sweden (N.G.O.), we are committed to tackling this critical issue by leveraging international expertise and tailoring our approach to Sri Lanka's unique cultural and social context.
Pilot Project Locations
Our initial efforts will focus on the Colombo district, followed by the Gampaha and Jaffna districts.
Focus Areas
  1. Education and Awareness
    • Conducting campaigns to break the stigma surrounding drug addiction.
    • Educating schools and communities about the risks of drug use and preventive measures.
  2. Rehabilitation and Support
    • Establishing rehabilitation centers staffed by professionals using evidence-based treatment methods.
    • Providing free counseling and therapy for individuals and families.
  3. Prevention Efforts
    • Addressing root causes such as poverty, unemployment, and mental health challenges.
    • Offering vocational training and sports activities as alternative opportunities for at-risk youth.
  4. Collaboration with Authorities and Civil Society
    • Partnering with local organizations, schools, and healthcare providers.
    • Developing policy recommendations for the government to implement long-term solutions.
Our Next Steps
After assessing the pilot project's outcomes, we plan to expand our efforts across Sri Lanka. Our goal is to create a scalable and replicable model for combating drug abuse nationwide.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
The grip of addiction is deeply rooted in the affected areas, but with coordinated efforts and your support, we can overcome this challenge and save countless lives.
Let us unite to create a future where no one suffers in silence.

4. Strengthening Democracy in Sri Lanka

The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka has not always practiced democracy in its true sense. The voices of the people have been silenced, leading to a climate where citizens lack the opportunity to influence the decisions that shape their lives. As a result, Sri Lanka has become economically insolvent, with depleted foreign reserves and a nation struggling to recover.

Collaborating for Democracy
To restore and strengthen democracy in Sri Lanka, we at Mankind Sweden (N.G.O.) are collaborating with the 11 most democratic countries in the world:

  • Norway
  • New Zealand
  • Finland
  • Canada
  • Sweden
  • Iceland
  • Denmark
  • Australia
  • Switzerland
  • USA
  • United Kingdom

Our Mission
Protecting Democracy
We are working to ensure that democratic principles are respected and upheld in Sri Lanka. This includes freedom of speech, free and fair elections, and the protection of human rights.

Strengthening Institutions
We strive to build strong democratic institutions that can resist corruption and ensure transparency and accountability.

Economic Stability through Democracy
We believe that a functioning democracy creates the conditions for economic growth and stability through fairness, the rule of law, and the opportunity for all citizens to actively participate in societal life.

Our Initiatives
International Cooperation
Through dialogue and partnerships with leading democratic countries, we aim to develop strategies and guidelines to help Sri Lanka recover economically and socially.

Education and Awareness
We work to educate and inspire citizens about their rights and responsibilities within a democratic framework.

Support for Reforms
We advocate for reforms that strengthen the democratic process and improve the quality of life for Sri Lanka’s citizens.

Together with our international partners and the Sri Lankan people, we are working to restore Sri Lanka as a nation defined by democracy, justice, and success.
